Suspect in Sturgis burglary sentenced

One of several people charged in connection with the November 2015 burglary of Outpost Guns in Sturgis was sentenced last month in federal court in Grand Rapids.
According to the Department of Justice, Kevonte Derome McNeely, 24, of Kalamazoo, was sentenced Aug. 31 to five years in a federal prison after pleading guilty to a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon.
He will have an additional three years of supervised release and fined $ 1,200, according to U. S. Attorney Patrick A. Miles Jr.
In a joint investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Sturgis police and Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, investigators believe that within days of the of the theft, the guns were transported to Kalamazoo and sold to several individuals.
To date, five of those weapons have been recovered.
Five other people have been charged in connection with the break-in.
Jorel Gefferard, of Sturgis, was indicted on the charges of theft of firearms, unlawful possession of one or more firearms as a felon and possessing, concealing and storing stolen firearms.
The other suspects are Kalamazoo residents.
