White Pigeon village residents are being urged to boil their drinking water after an advisory was issued late Thursday afternoon.
The notice was posted by St. Joseph County Emergency Services Director T.J. Baker.
The order marks the second in White Pigeon this month.
On Oct. 10, municipal officials cancelled a five-day boil-water advisory after a series of tests reported negative for the presence of coliform bacteria.
The advisory went into effect after four of eight samples being tested as a routine procedure yielded the positive result.
Coliform is typically an indication that there could be a problem with the treatment or distribution system. The presence of coliform warrants follow-up testing to see if any other bacteria of greater concern – including E. coli – are present.
The system was flushed and new samples taken eventually yielded the acceptable reading.
