The new location for the Twin County Community Probation Center was showcased Tuesday during an open house in Three Rivers.
Currently situated in the 300 block of South Main Street, the probation center will move to 520 S. Main St. by the end of the month. Executive director Tom Miles said if all goes as planned, Oct. 22 will be the move-in date.
He said the closure of the Save-A-Lot grocery store in 2013 and the probation center’s need for a new location after 30 years at its current site was a matter of good timing.
The $2.8 million restoration included a complete gutting of the former store and a 2,100-square-foot addition that will serve as administrative offices.
Miles said the biggest benefit of the new location, in his opinion, is the capacity for women. The current site is designed in a manner that prevents it from operating as a co-ed facility.
Dignitaries and St. Joseph County judges took part in a program coinciding with the event.
