Motorists who travel U.S. 131 into the Kalamazoo area are being advised of a notable road project starting next week that will result in the full closure of a section of the highway.
The Michigan Department of Transportation announced the railroad crossing at the south end of the village of Schoolcraft will be closed for up to three weeks beginning Monday.
MDOT officials said the project will include repaving the railroad crossing approach between South and Lovell streets.
U.S. 131 will be closed at the railroad crossing and motorists detoured to XY Avenue, 8th Street and West W Avenue. The closure and detour will be in place potentially through Nov. 4.
In an unrelated traffic project, the 1 1/2-mile reconstruction of Silver Street between M-60 and Wakeman Road in Mendon Township was completed Thursday and is now open following a three-week detour to Angevine Road.
