Sturgis resident Lauren Roberts had the good fortune of holding the $5,000 winning ticket during Thursday’s Mega Raffle drawing conducted by the St. Joseph County United Way.
The 33-year-old Morgan Olson employee actually won twice: Roberts was one of 10 employees whose names were randomly drawn last month and given a ticket from company president Mike Ownbey.
Kelly Hostetler, executive director of the Centreville-based St. Joseph County United Way, said the annual Mega Raffle is in its fifth year and is the United Way’s third-largest event annually in terms of money raised.
Mega Raffle tickets are $100 each.
In all, 27 people won money through the Mega Raffle. The owner of the first ticket out was awarded $500, while 20 people drawn at predetermined intervals each won $100.
