Two Elkhart residents were arrested last week after they allegedly stole mail in Cass County.
Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police Department Chief Timothy Kozal said officers responded around 11 p.m. Wednesday to the area of Sunrise Drive and Redfield in Ontwa Township in response to a report of a subject opening mailboxes.
With the assistance of the Cass County Sheriff Department, a vehicle was stopped in the area and 10 stolen debit/credit cards were located in the possession of the two occupants of the vehicle.
Three search warrants were subsequently executed at residences in Northern Indiana, where evidence of mail theft, production of false identification and an assortment of fraudulent checks were located. The investigation is still ongoing, though a 28-year-old man and 32-year-old woman have been arrested.
