An icon in White Pigeon municipal government took part in his final village council meeting Wednesday.
Dan Czajkowski was honored earlier in the evening for his 30 years as a village council member. He served the past 14 years as village president.
With a two-year term to the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners already secured and beginning in January, Czajkowski was clearly humbled and pausing at times to maintain his composure.
The 60-year-old Bronson native has operated Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon since 1985. He came to the community in 1977.
A number of tributes were bestowed upon Czajkowski during Wednesday’s gathering. State Rep. Aaron Miller presented a tribute from the state, signed by Miller, State Sen. John Proos, U.S. Rep Fred Upton and Gov. Rick Snyder.
Czajkowski also was given a letter of recognition signed by Snyder and presented by village council president pro-tem Mike Armstrong; a framed letter of citation from White Pigeon Township Supervisor Don Gloy; and a plaque of commendation from the village’s police department presented by Chief Bill Burgoyne.
