Commission makes board nominations

Two soon-to-be-former members of the county commission were nominated to separate boards Tuesday over the objections of Commissioner Robin Baker.
Don Eaton was appointed to fill an impending vacancy on the Commission on Aging Board, while Rick Shaffer was reappointed to the Parks and Recreation Commission. Both terms begin Jan. 1.
They will serve in the capacity as citizens at large, as Eaton’s bid for re-election earlier this year was thwarted by Kathy Pangles and Shaffer chose to not seek re-election. Eaton’s and Shaffer’s terms as county commissioners expire Dec. 31.
Baker said his vote against the motion was nothing personal. He objected, however, to the board not seeking public nominations for the posts. He said past practice has been to advertise the vacancies, and that step was not taken in either of the two cases.
