Allen Balog won his fourth two-year term to the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners in Tuesday’s general election.
The Three Rivers resident and former mayor of Three Rivers will join John Dobberteen as the only two incumbents returning to the five-member board in January.
Representing Flowerfield and Fabius townships, and the city of Three Rivers, the 60-year-old Balog fended off a challenge from Democrat Cody Sharpe by roughly a 3-to-2 margin to claim the District 1 crown.
Balog said he is grateful and humbled, and will continue to do the best job he can for all of St. Joseph County.
Meanwhile, District 3 – comprised of Florence, Lockport, Nottawa and Sherman townships – will be represented through 2018 by Dennis Allen. The former undersheriff of St. Joseph County beat Florence Township candidate Tim Carls, 3,003 votes to 2,055.
Allen, 61, a Centreville resident, ran as a Republican. He said he looks forward to playing a role in county government and he vowed to work hard for the county.
