Fabius Township Treasurer Judy Holman said strong winds Tuesday blew down an Indiana Michigan Power line near the township’s fire department on Broadway Road.
The result was a power outage in a pocket that included the township hall a few miles down the road and in the midst of general-election voting at the time.
The outage occurred around 4:30 p.m. and lasted almost two hours.
Holman said someone who had just finished voting when the power went out ran home, grabbed a generator and brought it back.
Holman said the outage didn’t prevent people from voting, though ballots were kept in secrecy folders and set aside. They were eventually fed into the ballot counter after the generator brought power back to the building.
