Thanksgiving is a week from Thursday, yet the stores are already getting ready for Christmas. It would be nice if we could appreciate these special days at a slower pace. It’s unfortunate that, when we think of Thanksgiving, we think more about Black Friday than about the day when we should be reflecting on things for which we are thankful. Time passes much too quickly; thus, we don’t enjoy those special times. My wife sometimes tells me that I eat a meal way too fast. I don’t take the time to taste and enjoy every bite. Guilty as charged! The same can be said about the holidays we are privileged to celebrate. Did you enjoy Halloween, or were you too busy planning for Thanksgiving? Veterans Day was this past Friday. Did you remember to thank a Vet for her/his service, or were you still upset or excited about the election?
I hate harping on this topic, but it’s something that really annoys me. What I’m talking about is the over-use of cellphones. I was in the dental chair the other day having my semi-annual cleaning, when my cellphone rang. I apologized for my failure in not turning the phone off while at the dentist. It’s usually posted in a medical facility that all cellphones should be turned off while inside the building. I was reassured that an apology was not needed. This opened up a conversation between the hygienist and me. It was a bit one-sided because my mouth had her fingers and that sharp picky instrument in there.
We both pretty much agreed that cellphones are used way too much. I shared my feelings on how I felt about people being preoccupied with their phones. It seems that the cellphone users are constantly texting someone and not paying attention to their surroundings. This can be very dangerous if the user is also in command of a two-ton motorized vehicle. People have been known to miss a stop sign at an intersection and as a result someone dies. Pedestrians are just as bad.
I have a cellphone and I can’t imagine getting along without it, but if it rings while I’m eating, I will let it go to voicemail rather than be so rude as to answer it while dining with someone.
Cellphones are part to blame for the lack of being able to carry on a normal conversation with someone. There are some individuals who would rather text someone than have a one-on-one conversation. I sincerely hope that we never lose the ability to communicate with each other the old fashioned way. Hang up and drive!
I could go on about this, but my phone is ringing and I must answer the call.
If you experience muscle cramps during a workout session, please consider eating a banana prior to your workout. It’s also been said that bananas can prevent night-time leg cramps. Bananas have also been known to help make ice cream taste better. Add some whipped cream and a cherry and you have one of the basic food groups.
See you Out and About!
