By now, your Thanksgiving guests have gone home, or you have returned from visiting relatives or friends, and are now ready to begin planning for Christmas.
I’m sure many of you ventured out on Black Friday and took advantage of some really fantastic deals. I hope you didn’t sustain any injuries from fellow shoppers as you grabbed the last remaining sale item on the shelf. Were you aware that some merchants might not stock their shelves to the shelf’s capacity? If you see that there aren’t that many sale items left, do you think you might be tempted to grab one of the few remaining, before they are gone? Perhaps when there is only one item left on the shelf, a few more magically appear from the backroom. It’s called “Marketing”, folks, and most retailers are very good at it.
Just about every day I experience a thought or witness something that makes me think, “Hmmm”. I wonder why certain things happen in a particular way, or why does this happen?
One example is the practice of making use of the bathroom first thing in the morning, or at times, in the middle of the night. I see my cardiac specialist about once a year, and my family doctor more frequently, depending if the need arises. During one visit, I posed this bathroom question to her,and she had no problem explaining the process to me.
It seems that gravity holds water in the lower part of your body while you’re standing or in the upright position. When you go to bed, or lie down for a nap, your lower body becomes level with the kidneys. As a result, the kidneys remove the water, because it is easier in this position.
We can survive longer without food than we can without water. We need water to flush the toxins out of our bodies. If you are thirsty, water is the best quencher. This is weird, because water is tasteless, unless you live in the Flint area.
I try to live healthy, so I asked my physician about the correct time to drink water, other than when you’re thirsty, and I also asked her how much we should drink at any given time. Here are a few answers to my questions:
If you want to activate your internal organs, drink two glasses of water after waking up.
To help your digestion, have a glass of water thirty minutes before starting a meal.
If you struggle with high blood pressure, have a glass of water before taking a bath. I’m not sure if this works if you shower.
If you’re interested in preventing a stroke or heart attack, have a glass of water prior to going to bed. Of course, by doing this, your chances of having to use the bathroom in the middle of the night increases. Also, if you have a glass of water prior to going to bed, you’re less likely to be awakened by a Charlie Horse. It seems your leg muscles enjoy hydration also.
Christmas is less than a month away, and you still have plenty of time to purchase those gifts for friends and family living elsewhere. This means that you will need to make a trip to the post office and mail those gifts to those loved ones. Please do yourself and the postal system a big favor and don’t wait until December 20th to visit the post office. Avoid the hassle of having to wait in line, while the postal clerk waits patiently on the person in front of you. Remember, you’ll be treated with the same courtesy as the person in front of you. Remember also, it’s not the postal employee’s fault that you waited until the last minute to send that gift to Aunt Mary. One final thought about the post office. If you can only visit the post office on Saturday, the window hours are from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
Now that Thanksgiving 2016 is in the history books, I’m most thankful that I don’t have to witness those political ads on television anymore. I think it’s time to pull our knickers up and get along with each other a little more. I’m sure glad hugs are free; otherwise I’d be bankrupt.
