Wilbur Cecil Ransbottom, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 17 at 10:30am. Wilbur, age 88, had been a long time resident of Three Rivers, Michigan before becoming a resident of Sheridan, Wyoming in 2009. Born February 26, 1928, Wilbur was the only child of Ethel Mary (Nichols) and Cecil Sherman Ransbottom.
He graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1946 marrying Dorothy Ellen (Weinberg) just two years later on November 14, 1948. Wilbur was a master printer working at Three Rivers Press for several years before joining Johnson Corporation as a machinist. Dorothy and Wilbur made their home together at 600 Maple Street in Three Rivers where they raised their four children. Wilbur was active with Boy Scouts of America serving many roles including Scout Master and lived the Boy Scout oath: trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. He was known for serving his neighbors, having an inventive spirit, and having a strong work ethic. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter; he loved gardening, canoeing, and beekeeping. Wilbur was, for many years, an active member of Freemasonry’s Mount Hermon Lodge No. 24 in Three Rivers, serving as Grand Master and attaining the 32nd degree of the Scottish Rite as well as a long standing member of the Three Rivers Chapter of Lions Club. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Three Rivers.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Ethel (Nichols) Ransbottom and step-father, Clayton Hartman; beloved bride, Dorothy Ellen (Weinberg) Ransbottom and daughter, Susan (Paul) Witty. He is survived by son, Wayne (Barb) Ransbottom, daughters, Cathy (Doug) Arney, Judith (Mark) Stallons, as well as two granddaughters, five grandsons, seven great-grandsons, and four great-grand daughters.
There will be a private interment at Poe’s Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends late Spring of 2017
