County commission honors 3 members

It was a time of reflection Tuesday in Centreville, as three of the county commission’s five members were honored for their collective 40 years of service to the county at what was their final meeting.
Rick Shaffer, Robin Baker and Don Eaton were presented plaques, and a generous amount of kind words from commission chairman Allen Balog and commissioner John Dobberteen.
Shaffer and Baker decided to not seek re-election after 20 and 14 years on the board, respectively; Eaton lost a bid for re-election in August after six years as a commissioner.
During his chairman’s report at the conclusion of the meeting, Balog called each of the three to the floor and expressed his gratitude for their commitment to St. Joseph County government.
Joining the board at its Jan. 3 meeting will be Kathy Pangle in Eaton’s place, Dennis Allen in Shaffer’s seat and Dan Czajkowski replacing Baker.
