Parks and Recreation selected for grant

The St. Joseph County Parks and Recreation Department was selected as a recipient of a grant in excess of $100,000, issued by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
County grant writer James Hissong said a $46,300 grant through the MDNR Trust Fund program was confirmed for continued development of the county’s river trail network.
In addition, a $62,500 grant through the agency’s Land and Water Conservation Fund for a playground, dock and accessibility upgrades at Cade Lake County Park and Campground was awarded.
County administrator Pat Yoder credited the recent developments across the county to the shared vision of area elected officials and local government staff.
He said the county’s parks and natural resources are one of its great assets.
Yoder said the county in recent years has made a strong effort to invest in its parks department.
