Sheriff’s officials responded to an attempted larceny from a motor vehicle early Wednesday in Leonidas Township.
According to a department media release, a vehicle driven by a Union City man slid off Shannon Road, near Blossom Road, at 3:23 a.m. The victim was able to flag down a passing motorist, who provided a ride back to the Union City man’s residence.
The victim returned to the scene of the slide-off in an effort to dig out his vehicle. He told authorities the man who drove him from the scene was attempting to steal the vehicle’s stereo system.
The victim recovered his stereo and the suspect fled south on Shannon Road. Authorities said the suspect’s vehicle was recovered on Chipper Drive, near Stowell Road, in Colon Township.
The vehicle had an improper Michigan registration attached. The suspect is described as a white male approximately 6-foot-4-inches, weighing about 250 pounds with a reddish/brown beard.
