Six arrested in Sturgis

Six people were arrested in Sturgis last week after resisting arrest.
The incident began when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle shortly before 2 a.m. Friday in the 400 block of West West Street for a traffic violation.
Officers said the vehicle pulled into a private drive, and a male and female in the vehicle fled into a residence. Police eventually secured the scene and obtained a search warrant for the residence.
Sturgis Police and St. Joseph County Sheriff’s deputies entered the home and located the suspects hidden in the basement. It was determined that the occupants of the home had worked to conceal the suspects from police by building a temporary structure in the basement.
The original two suspects were arrested on several outstanding warrants as well as resisting and obstructing police.
Four occupants of the home were charged with obstructing police as well as harboring a fugitive.
