Betty Van Wormer, 79

Betty Lou (Castle) Van Wormer, age 79, of Colon, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Sturgis Hospital after a short illness.
Betty was born April 8, 1937, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Elwyn “Rex” and Margarette (Hall) Castle.
Betty had made her home in Colon most of her life, graduating from Colon High School with the class of 1955.
On April 29, 1961, she married George H. Van Wormer in Leonidas. He preceded her in death Feb. 27, 2013.
Betty was a homemaker and had helped on the family farm. She also had worked at Colon Community Schools in the cafeteria for several years.
She is survived by four sons, David Van Wormer of Burlington, N.C., Jay (Donna) Van Wormer of Colon, Gary (Chris) Van Wormer of Marathon, Fla., and Billy Van Wormer of Colon,; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Van Wormer; and three grandchildren, Damion, Jimmy and Sami Van Wormer.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Betty L. Van Wormer will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at the funeral home, with the Rev. David J. Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.
