Constantine man dies in Indiana crash

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, including Sheriff Brad Balk, acknowledged the passing of Mounted Division Lt. Terry Shelhamer.
According to a department media release, Shelhamer died in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday after a semi pulled in front of his pickup in Bristol, Ind. Shelhamer’s granddaughter was a passenger and also injured in the accident. She was treated and released.
Shelhamer joined the volunteer unit in May 1968 and had nearly 49 years of service with the department and served in a variety of positions.
Terry and his wife, Marcia, also a volunteer for the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Victim Services Unit, resided in Constantine. He was a true horseman and his influence on the Department and community will be missed, Balk said.
