A few major issues from 2016 were brought before the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners during their inaugural meeting of 2017 last week.
Tuesday’s commission meeting, the first for three of the board’s five members, afforded Jared Hoffmaster and a few other county residents an opportunity to keep some key topics at the forefront.
Hoffmaster, a Fabius Township resident, provided a courtesy recap of the proposed multi-field sports complex eyed for an 80-acre parcel in the Three Rivers area.
A member of the Youth Sportsplex Steering Committee, Hoffmaster said the proposed $4.1 million development is viewed by supporters as a catalyst for attracting and retaining families to St. Joseph County.
Meanwhile, Sherman Township resident Vince Mifsud told commissioners he would like to be considered for a seat on the five-member Road Commission Board. David Yunker’s term expired Dec. 31 and county commissioners are interviewing to fill the six-year term.
Yunker has indicated he would like to serve another term.
Finally, Florence Township Supervisor Gordon Evilsizor addressed commissioners regarding the state of Constantine Road.
Evilsizor said 2017 should be the year the roadway finally is improved to an acceptable standard.
