An Indiana man was arrested on charges that include fleeing and eluding following a two-state pursuit that concluded early Wednesday in Cass County.
Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were advised around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday that a suspect was being pursued stemming from an incident in Elkhart. The chase continued into Cass County, where deputies spotted the vehicle near Calvin Center Road and Williamsville Street.
The pursuit continued but subsequently ended near the intersection of Birch Road and Teasdale Lake, where the suspect vehicle continued to drive into a corn field. The driver then fled on foot.
Cass County K-9 Faust was deployed and the suspect quickly surrendered to the K-9 handler.
A 29-year-old South Bend man who was a passenger in the vehicle was detained at the scene and released with no charges at this time.
The driver was charged with fleeing and eluding, and operating without a driver’s license.
