A 32-year-old Sturgis man was arrested last weekend following a high-speed chase that terminated in Burr Oak Township.
The incident took place starting around 6 p.m. Friday, when a volunteer firefighter saw a Cadillac Escalade being driven recklessly on Stubey Road.
Sheriff’s department officials said the firefighter began following the Escalade while talking with 911 dispatchers.
A sheriff ’s deputy attempted but failed to stop the vehicle near the intersection of Maystead Road and M-66. The driver fled, reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour on North Centerville and Wait roads, as well as M-66, according to authorities.
The vehicle was driven through fields and residential yards in an attempt to evade the deputy. The chase ended, however, when the vehicle crashed in a ditch on Maystead Road near Kelly Road.
Two other occupants of the vehicle were released.
Police learned the driver was wanted on felony warrants.
