Dr. Robert Walter Puckett, of Klinger Lake, White Pigeon. April 30, 1923-February 9, 2017.
An 80-year love affair ended early Thursday morning, Feb. 9, 2017, when he said “I love you Jean” and passed away at his home.
He was born April 30, 1923, in Hampton, Iowa, a son of the late Bertram and Mary O. (Mitchell) Puckett.
Dr. Robert Puckett met Jean Daniels 80 years ago, and he told his friend, “She is going to be my girl,” and so she was for the next 80 years.
Dr. Puckett entered medical school before he graduated from college, because at the time, doctors were needed for World War II. He missed this war but served during the Korean Conflict.
During his years as a board certified internist he served as chief of staff at Arcadia Methodist Hospital in Arcadia, Calif., and was an adjunct professor at University of Southern California. Being the humble man he was, he would be embarrassed if we said much more about him.
He is survived by his sweetheart, Jean (Daniels) Puckett, age 94; a daughter, Nani (Dennis) Miller of Allen Park; two sons, Bob (Susan) Puckett of Klinger Lake and David (Cathy) Puckett of Portage; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Dr. Puckett was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Susan Puckett, age 5½; and a son, Thomas Puckett, age 40.
Bob, Dad, Dr. Puckett, you will be missed.
In accordance with Dr. Puckett’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private memorial service celebrating and honoring a life well lived will be held at a later date at the family home on Klinger Lake.
Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
