To those of you who love someone or anything, I wish you a very Happy Valentine’s Day. If you don’t love anything or anyone, I believe you have a problem. To the majority of you, please take a moment and remind those closest to you just how much they mean to you. If you’re a hugger like I am, you have a perfect excuse to hug just about anyone. To be on the safe side, keep those hugs short but meaningful.
This is not Saturday, but it is Valentine’s Day, so it is pretty much understood that it is only proper to take that special someone out to dinner. This doesn’t mean to grab a Happy Meal underneath a golden arch, unless you’re planning to travel to St. Louis. Gentlemen, I’m talking about someplace nice, you know, where someone waits on you at your table, not where you order at the counter and they bring your food to you later. I’m talking about a place you’d go where you might need to make a reservation first. If you ask just about any lady what they like to make most for dinner, they would be most likely say, “Reservations”.
If you are a gentleman, and are lucky enough to find a date for this evening, here are a few hints on how to make the evening a memorable one for that lady in your life:
Chew with your mouth closed.
Take off your baseball cap at the table.
Make sure the lady orders and is served first.
Don’t pick your teeth at the table.
Be courteous to those joining you at your table. You have one mouth and two ears, so you should spend more time listening than talking.
Turn off your cell phone, or set it to vibrate, if it must be left on.
If you have difficulty following any of these hints, you deserve to stay home by yourself and enjoy a chicken pot pie in front of the TV watching Wheel of Fortune.
I received a flu shot about a month ago, at the same time I had my annual physical. There’s been some debate concerning the validity of getting a shot for influenza. Getting that poke in the arm is not a guarantee that you won’t get the flu, but I feel that by getting one, the chance of coming down with a bigger bout with the bug is lessened. Sure enough, the bug found its way into my system. I was down for a day, and I won’t go into the details on my experience, but I will say that there aren’t too many people that I’d wish that discomfort on. I know of a few others who were sick for several days. Whether they had received the immunization is unknown to me. I guess the best that we can all do during the flu and cold season is to wash our hands frequently and stay away from those afflicted. Those most likely to get sick are probably teachers and hospital staff.
Finally, more information on one of my favorite fruits. You guessed it. “Bananas”.
Bananas, a cure for constipation – Bananas are high in fiber, so can help restore normal bowel action. May not need to resort to laxatives.
Heart attack and stroke – Bananas are high in potassium and low in salt, and are officially recognized by the FSDA as being able to lower blood pressure and protect against heart attack and stroke.
PMS – High levels of vitamin B6 regulates blood glucose levels, which is vital in affecting one’s mood.
Hangovers – Make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. Bananas will calm the stomach and with the help of honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and rehydrates your system.
See you Out and About!
