The St. Joseph County Conservation District this week announced its 2017 river-cleanup schedule.
Following a meeting Monday involving river-cleanup planning members, the schedule was set and features eight cleanups on seven dates.
The upper St. Joseph River will be the focus of the first three cleanups, starting June 10 at Farrand Road in Colon Township. It will continue June 24 at Jacksonburg Road in Leonidas Township and July 8 from M-66 to Railroad Street Park in Mendon.
The effort will then shift to the Prairie River July 22, Aug. 5 and Aug. 19. The season concludes Sept. 9 with a split crew starting at Covered Bridge Park in Centreville, and another team beginning simultaneously at Hoshel Canoe Park and ending at Lutz Road in Lockport Township.
In all, the 2017 effort will cover about 30 miles of rivers.
The conservation district is seeking volunteers for all dates. More information is available on its website: www.stjoecountycd.com.
