The St. Joseph County Road Commission has announced the implementation of seasonal speed and weight restrictions went into effect this week.
As a result, a 35 percent reduction in truckloads and adherence to a speed of 35 miles per hour – depending on truck size and axle spacing – is being enforced on two dozen all-season county roads.
The 35 miles per hour speed restriction also applies to empty trucks if they weigh more than 10,000 pounds.
County roads will be patrolled by certified weigh masters. Violators of the restrictions face a variety of fines. Special permits for designated routes during frost laws will be required.
Gravel roads are not subject to frost laws.
