Mrs. Carol Elaine Hartman, age 72, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Carol was born July 2, 1944 in Dowagiac, MI. to Orlo B. and Dorothy M. (Potter) Fox. She was one of five children. She grew up in Volinia, MI. where she attended Volinia-Newton Woods Schools. She then attended Marcellus High School where she was the Homecoming Queen for football in 1961. She graduated from Marcellus High in 1962.
Carol married her high school sweetheart, William “Bill” C. Hartman, on March 1, 1964 in Dowagiac. They recently celebrated their 53rd anniversary. Together with her husband, she enjoyed traveling to northern Michigan, shopping for antiques and spoiling her grandchildren.
Carol was employed outside the home in the retail field. She worked for many years at the Sears, JC Penny, D & W and Harding’s in Three Rivers. In 1978, she opened and ran the downtown Three Rivers Goodwill Store. Most recently, Carol worked for the Ed Lowe Foundation in Cassopolis.
Later in life, Carol returned to being a homemaker. She loved her flower gardens and decorating her home. She enjoyed going to garage sales, flea markets, auctions, and estate sales. The time Carol loved most was spent with her family. She was a loving, fun, and spontaneous wife, mother and grandmother. She never missed any of her grandchildren’s activities or sporting events before falling ill. A day didn’t pass that she didn’t see her grandchildren or speak with them on the phone. She was their biggest fan.
Keeping Carol’s memory alive is her devoted, loving husband Bill, daughters , Ronni K. Hartman, Becky J. Hartman, Michelle L. Coop; granddaughters, Keagan E. Coop and Shelby J. Hartman; grandson, Travis W. Coop; great-grandson, Flynn A. Hartman; two brothers, Chris (Diane) Fox, Kim (Linda) Fox; brother-in-law, Bruce Jensen; sister-in-law, Jennie Fox; several nieces and nephews and extended family.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, identical twin sister Susan E. Jensen, brother, Joel B. Fox and two very close, lifelong friends, Lynda Rodgers and Anne Rudd.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A visitation will be scheduled in the near future at the Hohner Funeral Home in care of Carol’s arrangements.
