William Henry (Hank) Feist, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home at Park Place Assisted Living in Kalamazoo, on Friday, March 17, 2017 at the age of 90. Hank joined his beloved wife, Leitha (Lee) Mae Feist, who preceded him in death in April 2006 after (56) years of marriage, and their loving grandson, Matthew Paul Nadelin (1981-2007; Joana Feist-Lindstrom).
Hank is lovingly remembered and survived by his and Lee’s children, William H. Feist III (Shirley) of Jackson, Mississippi, Michael A. Feist (Cindy) of Kalamazoo, and Joana K. Lindstrom (John/Jay) of Charlotte, North Carolina. Also surviving are Hank’s three grandchildren, Timothy Feist, Cristina Feist-Peterson, Richard E. Nadelin, two step-grandchildren, Kyle Lindstrom and Mitchel Lindstrom, and seven great-grandchildren.
Hank was born December 22, 1926, in St. Louis, Missouri, and throughout his life was known as Hank, or sometimes Bill. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Korea in the 1901st Engineer Aviation Battalion. He married Leitha Mae Hagan in 1950 and moved to Kalamazoo in 1952. After graduating from Western Michigan University he taught Special Education at Galesburg-Augusta High School for 23 years until retiring in 1988. In retirement, he cherished time motor homing with Lee, being with family and friends, boating, and riding his motorcycle.
Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold Street, Three Rivers, is handling all arrangements. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 24, 2017, and a Celebration Service of Hank’s life will take place the next day, Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 11:00 AM. Pastor John Hill (West Oshtemo Baptist/Norton Newberg Bible Church) will officiate. Hank will be laid to rest with his beloved wife, Lee, at Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers, Michigan.
