A Park Township man whose expertise centers on bees is offering a one-day beekeeping course this coming weekend.
Bee School will be led 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday by Jonathan Showalter, owner of Beeline Apiaries & Woodenware. The business is located at the one-time bowling alley at the northwest corner of M-60 and Parkville Road in Park Township.
A Pennsylvania native, the 48-year-old Showalter has been working with bees for nearly four decades.
Bee School will introduce participants to a world greater than just the beekeeping aspect. Showalter said he loves to talk about bees and their interesting ways, and he looks forward to sharing his knowledge in hopes that people will take the initiative to begin beekeeping themselves.
Beyond that, he added, Showalter hopes people have a newfound appreciation for what bees do as well as their strong work ethic. The adage “busy as a bee,” he noted, is not an exaggeration.
Lunch is provided and the cost for Bee School is $40 per person or $70 per couple. Cost is $20 for children 15 years of age and younger.
Saturday’s session will be the only class Showalter plans to lead this year.
