Three people – including two children – were treated for injuries they sustained after being attacked by a dog in Cass County over the weekend.
Deputies were called at 5:41 p.m. Sunday to the 63000 block of Crooked Creek Road, where 44-year-old Jennifer Hansford of Cassopolis was injured after protecting a 7-year-old child and 2-year-old child from the dog.
Hansford and the older child were treated at Lakeland Hospital in Niles and released. The younger child was airlifted to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis for severe head trauma and is in stable condition, according to sheriff’s department officials.
The dog was captured by Cass County Animal Control and remains in a 10-day quarantine. A decision about its fate will be made by the end of the quarantine period.
Sheriff’s officials did not indicate if the dog is a family pet, a stray, or belongs to a neighbor.
