Donny McClain, 90

Donald Earl “Donny” McClain, age 90, of Mendon, died Monday, April 10, 2017 at Heartland Healthcare Center in Three Rivers. He was born in Mendon on May 31, 1926 the son of Robert J. and Martha L. (Rench) McClain and has been a lifetime resident of Mendon. Donnie attended the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint in his younger days. He engaged in general farming and worked for Fernwood Heating in Mendon . He enjoyed gardening and tending his fruit trees, and then donating the harvest to friends, neighbors, and fellow members at the Mendon United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed making furniture, and Winters in Texas for over 20 years.

Donny is survived by two sisters, Martha L. McClain and Mary M. Spealman both of Mendon; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna A. Oldenburg; and by five brothers, Charles M. McClain, G. Henry McClain, Robert M. McClain, Stanley L. McClain, and Ernest L. McClain.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Mendon United Methodist Church with Pastor Thoreau May officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery followed by fellowship at the church. Memorial may be directed to the church.
