John Otto Frohriep, age 87, of Sturgis, and longtime Colon resident, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 1, 2017, at his home.
He was born Dec. 1, 1929, in Colon, Mich., son of the late Clifford Carl and Bertha Beatrice (Frye) Frohriep.
John resided in Sturgis since 2003 coming from Colon where he lived most of his life and was a graduate of Colon High School with the class of 1948.
On May 19, 1956, he married Carol Schrader at the Colon United Methodist Church in Colon.
Following many years of dedicated employment as a knitter mechanic, he retired from Denton Mills in Centreville. He began his career at Lamb Knit Goods in Colon.
John was a member of the Kalamazoo First Assembly of God Church and enjoyed hunting and playing golf and was an avid sports fan. He loved his dogs Molly, Jenni and Chloe.
John was proud to have served his country during the Korean War as a medic in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 60 years, Carol; one son,Michael (Emily) Frohriep of Sturgis; one daughter, Denise (Doug) Greider of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jared, Alicia, Lindsey and Sidney; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Richard Frohriep.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-3284. Funeral services celebrating the life of John O. Frohriep will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Pastor Rod Detwiller of Firm Foundation Ministries in Centreville will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis where full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
