April’s unemployment rate in St. Joseph County was one-tenth of a percent lower than the month previous.
The monthly labor-market analysis by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget showed the county’s 3.4 percent April unemployment rate marked a decrease from March’s 3.5 percent.
St. Joseph County remained below the state unemployment average, which was 3.7 percent in April.
The agency said a decrease in the labor force contributed to the April job-market figures.
Kalamazoo County featured the lowest unemployment rate in the region in April, with a 2.8 percent figure.
Meanwhile, Van Buren County was the region’s highest, at 4.2 percent.
Cass County’s unemployment rate for the month was 3.4 percent, a 1-percent decrease from March.
