Out and About – Week of May 29th

Everyone has their share of problems. Sometimes the problems are small and easily solved. Other times they are beyond imagination. We’ve all had problems so difficult that we’d wish we would wake up and discover that it was all just a bad dream.
I remember listening to a speaker whose topic centered on problems that people encounter and have to live with, because they can’t seem to find a cure. The speaker did explain a way in which to deal with some of our most difficult and seemingly incurable problems. For example, if you think your job is the hardest in the world and you wish you didn’t have to put up with all the hassle of putting in so many hours for a meager paycheck, just think of those unemployed and unable find work. Maybe you’ve made a trip to your side-by-side refrigerator late at night and become upset because someone has eaten all your favorite lunchmeat and that jar of mayo is empty. As a result, you can’t fix your favorite sandwich. Think of how many people out there are hungry and haven’t eaten in two or three days. What I’m getting at is that we should all look at life through the eyes of someone less fortunate. Take a walk in their shoes and you’ll appreciate what you have just a bit more. There’s always someone out there worse off than you.\
Watermelon is just about as American as the hot dog or apple pie. A picnic is not a picnic without some cold, crisp watermelon. There are even watermelon-eating contests. If you’re lucky, you might even be a part of a watermelon seed spitting contest. You must never swallow the seeds, because it will cause a watermelon to grow in your tummy. That’s the truth, because I read about it on Facebook, or maybe someone tweeted it on Twitter.
I prefer to add salt to a serving of watermelon. I find that it enhances the taste. To me, not salting watermelon is like eating popcorn without salt and butter. Deeply red watermelon is the best, because it contains lycopene, which is an antioxidant. Seedless watermelons have more lycopene, so by eating the seedless variety, it will help reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease.
Watermelon is good for everyone, but especially for men, because it can help with prostate health and ED. It accomplishes this by improving blood flow.
Most adults take some sort of vitamin supplement. Watermelon is a rich source of Vitamin A, in the form of beta-carotene. Beta-Carotene is important for vision, healthy skin, teeth and gums. Watermelon should be consumed with some fat, so that the body can better absorb it. One way to do this would be to prepare a nice summer salad containing some watermelon. It should also include crumbled feta cheese, minced fresh mint with a fresh lime dressing. This is all too much work for me. Give me a fresh chilled watermelon, a carving knife, and a little salt. I’ll be happy as a hog in mud.
Although I’m retired, I still find myself under a little stress from time to time. Like many retirees, I’m busier now than I was when I was earning a weekly paycheck. In researching ways to relieve stress, I came across a few very good solutions. One in particular that caught my eye dealt with associating oneself with friends who appear to be a bit weird. People with weird personalities make the best friends, and being openly weird actually relieves stress and anxiety. This solution sounds good to me.
Here are a couple of things to ponder while you’re meditating: Why should they sterilize a needle for lethal injection and why don’t you ever see a picture of Tarzan with a beard?
