Students receive awards

The Exchange Club of Sturgis held its 33rd annual youth awards program earlier this month at Sturges-Young Auditorium.
Among those honored was Sturgis High School senior Sara Trine, who was named Exchange Club’s “Student of the Year.” She read from an essay she wrote about the topic of community service.
Exchange Club of Sturgis also presented the 2017 Young Citizenship Awards. Exchange Club member Claudia Pahls, who chairs the committee that awards the recognitions, said students had won the awards because they exemplify citizenship, attitude, academics, service, leadership and sportsmanship.
Young citizenship award recipients were Joshua Gooch and Meah Yunker, eighth- graders at Sturgis Middle School; Liam Shields and Alexus Werntz, eighth-grade students at Trinity Lutheran School; and Matthew Wickey and Mayah Martinez, fifth-graders from Eastwood Elementary School in Sturgis.
