A smoldering mulch pile is suspected of triggering a massive blaze that destroyed a Mottville Township business this week.
Investigators remain on the scene at Green Stream Recycling to confirm the source of the fire that leveled the business Monday afternoon. In all, the services of 19 departments – including five from Indiana, eight from St. Joseph County and four from Cass County – were needed to contain the fire.
Firefighters said several million gallons of water were used to fight the blaze. One White Pigeon tanker alone made 50 trips with water at the height of the fire, hauling 185,000 gallons per trip.
Green Stream, located in the 69000 block of M-103, recycles wood, Styrofoam, cardboard and plastic.
