Speed was cited as a factor in a single-vehicle crash earlier this week in Cass County’s Porter Township.
Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were dispatched at 5 a.m. Tuesday to Union Road in an area south of U.S. 12.
According to a department media release, a Dodge pickup driven by 27-year-old Shelly Wright failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway. The vehicle struck a mailbox and a tree before coming to rest on its side.
Wright and passenger Jason Odell, 42, also of Cassopolis, were injured in the crash. They were transported to Elkhart General Hospital.
Investigators concluded Wright may have been driving too fast. However, alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
Both Wright and Odell were wearing seatbelts.
