The St. Joseph County Conservation District is seeking volunteers to assist with the second of its seven river cleanup events.
The next cleanup will be Saturday on a stretch of the St. Joseph River from Jacksonburg Road in Leonidas Township to M-66. The three-mile route continues from a June 10 cleanup that started on North Farrand Road in Colon Township.
Event organizers said a reservation is necessary in order for them to secure an appropriate number of kayaks and canoes. An accurate number will also help plan for lunch after the cleanup.
Start time is 9:30 a.m. Participants will be given a ride from M-66 to the starting point in order to retrieve their vehicles. For more information or to make a reservation, the conservation district can be reached at 467-6336, ext. 5.
The third cleanup will be July 8 from M-66 to South Railroad Street Park in Mendon.
