Colon Community Schools Board of Education this week agreed to proceed with a search for a new superintendent despite the relatively late start.
The district has posted the job and set a July 31 deadline for applications.
During Monday’s meeting, the board agreed to narrow the final field of applicants to a manageable number – likely no more than five – and then seek aid from Jay Newman. Newman, a Colon-area resident who owns Culture By Choice, will likely be asked to administer a personality profile once the field of candidates has been narrowed.
Newman served as Colon’s interim superintendent for a full school year after Lloyd Kirby resigned in August 2013.
Current superintendent Christine Barnes, who is resigning at the end of the month to take a job closer to family in Iowa, said between questions the board posed when she was interviewed two years ago and additional questions she could draft – potentially with the aid of interim superintendent Ginny Kowalski – the board probably has an adequate list of queries for candidates.
Barnes concurred that Newman’s personality profile has merit and said employing Newman to conduct that component of the process would be a prudent move. The cost to administer the profiles is $250 each.
