Colon’s interim high school principal was promoted Wednesday to interim superintendent.
Ginny Kowalski will step in to the position Aug. 1. Christine Barnes, who was named superintendent in June 2015, is resigning at the end of the month to oversee Keokuk Community Schools in Iowa.
Colon’s board of education meets at 6 p.m. Monday and its members will decide what step to take regarding whether to try landing a superintendent before the start of the 2017-18 academic year, according to board president Eric Wagner. He said there’s also a chance it could stick with Kowalski through the upcoming academic year.
Kowalski was brought aboard after Beth Robb stepped down as high school principal and athletic director in April. Kowalski previously served as CTE director at the St. Joseph County Intermediate School District.
Her latest appointment came during a special board meeting Wednesday.
Mike Rasmussen, former assistant principal and athletic director at White Pigeon High School, has taken over as Colon High School’s principal. His employment, which started Monday, affords Kowalski the time to work with Barnes before Barnes departs at the end of the month.
