Constantine Road reconstruction begins

Work on a portion of roadway considered the worst road in St. Joseph County started last week.
St. Joseph County Road Commission Manager Chris Minger said crews from Michigan Paving and Materials of Kalamazoo started the task of reconstructing Constantine Road from the White Pigeon village limits north to an area about half a mile north of Stears Road.
The work is being completed thanks to financial commitments from the road commission, the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners, and Florence, Constantine and White Pigeon townships.
Minger said last week’s work involved a process called crush-and-shape. A new layer of paving is expected to be laid down starting today, Minger said.
He said the ultimate goal is to reconstruct Constantine Road at least to Mintdale Road, though that task won’t be completed until additional funding is secured.
