Dennis Newcomer, 74

With a smile on his face and the taste of his favorite whiskey on his lips, Dennis A. Newcomer, age 74, of Jones, died peacefully Monday, June 26, 2017 at home in the comfort of his family’s presence.

He was born October 14, 1942 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Arthur and Kathleen Newcomer. He married Pat Rolfe June 9, 1973 in Elkhart, Indiana.  She survives.  He was preceded in death by his mother; an infant son, Scott Allen Newcomer; a grandson, Aaron Kabzinski; and an infant great grandson, Ethan.

Denny was a member of the first graduating class in 1962 of Penn High School in Mishawaka. He was a machinist in many of the area machine shops and worked many hours until the age of 73. One of his proudest achievements was having made some of the engine parts for the world’s fastest motorcycle driven to 255 mph by Korry Hogan.

Denny was a master at puttering around his home. He enjoyed grilling, gardening, raising dogs, and cleaning up old cast iron.  Everyone who visited would leave well fed and a little smarter about some random topic.

Denny will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of forty four years, Pat Newcomer; two daughters, Jennifer (Bob) Carr, Amanda (Todd) Osman; one son, John Newcomer; his father, Arthur Newcomer; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Moore, Nicholas Moore, Robbie Kabzinski, Caleb Woods, Hannah Woods, Rachel Newcomer, Lydia Osman and Joshua Osman; one great granddaughter, Sheyenne Moore; one sister, Pam Gulotta; a host of nieces and nephews and too many friends to count.

Dennis and his family have donated his body to Michigan State University for medical research. Family and friends will gather this summer for a barbeque at the family home.

The family prefers for contributions to be made in Denny’s memory to either Cass County Council on Aging, Post Office Box 5, Cassopolis, Michigan 49031, or, Cass County Animal Shelter, 323 M 62 North, Cassopolis, Michigan 49031.
