Deputies respond to situation with suicidal man

Cass County sheriff’s deputies were called last week in response to a situation involving a suicidal subject.
Sheriff Richard Behnke said the agency was alerted around 10:30 a.m. Thursday to the 69000 block of Hazel Road in the community of Union.
Deputies were told a 28-year-old man from Union was involved in an argument with his spouse and subsequently took a large amount of prescription drugs. He then left the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
K9 officer Faust eventually located the man, who was in a field and unresponsive.
Deputies began first aid on the subject and carried him back to his residence. He was turned over to Porter Township Ambulance and transported to Elkhart General Hospital.
