Three Rivers Community Schools Superintendent Jean Logan has issued a statement regarding last week’s drowning death of one of its high school students.
Logan said the passing of 16-year-old Marco Chapman is a loss not only to the school district but the community as well.
She said the school district will do everything it can to support Chapman’s family, its students and staff. Logan added that the district and its board of education offers its most heartfelt condolences to Chapman’s family and friends.
The Three Rivers High School Crisis Response Team was on hand at the school office Thursday to provide support.
Authorities were called around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday to the St. Joseph River in the area of King and Thomas streets in Three Rivers after Chapman failed to surface in an attempt to swim across the river.
Chapman would have been a junior this coming academic year at Three Rivers High School.
