WWMT television is reporting that a 6-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on a Colon Community Schools bus in April.
The incidents allegedly involved a 15-year-old boy who is no longer a student at the district but still faces up to seven charges of sexual assault, the station reported.
St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough said charges of failure to report abuse against the bus driver were dropped because of a state loophole that says the incident is not required to be reported because both subjects involved were juveniles.
WWMT said the driver was told numerous times by the victim about the alleged incidents but failed to report her concerns to appropriate authorities.
Interim superintendent Ginny Kowalski issued a statement in response to the alleged incidents. The statement reads the board and administration have cooperated fully with local law enforcement and have provided to authorities what evidence it has.
