The Fabius Park Fire Department is seeking to purchase a quick-response boat it can keep at its station on Broadway Road in Three Rivers.
Currently, when a report of a water incident is issued, the first boat to the scene is the dive-rescue craft from Centreville. With its own boat, however, the fire department could have a boat on the water in conceivably between five to 10 minutes.
Chief Mike Frye said department personnel have approached lake associations and the community for donations toward a used boat, which they anticipate to cost about $10,000. A new boat would cost $23,000.
During the agency’s board meeting last week, the Clear Lake Improvement Association presented a donation of $1,525 to the firefighters.
Added to $1,250 in donations from Clear Lake residents, the gift totaled $2,775.
Anyone wishing to contribute may make donations payable to Fabius Park Fire Department. More information is available by calling, 278-1104.
