Fundraiser benefits Hurricane Harvey relief

A benefit staged last week by a Sturgis business and the St. Joseph County United Way netted $1,300 for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

Sturgis Media Group and the Centreville-based agency over the course of three hours Friday evening collected donations and proceeds from the sale of hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, soft pretzels, baked goods and other foods.

Kelly Hostetler, executive director of St. Joseph County United Way, said every dollar raised through the “St. Joseph County Cares” campaign will help, and all proceeds will go toward a Family Catastrophic Fund set up through the United Way.

Among those who contributed were Ben’s Pretzels, Chicken Coop, Hot ‘n’ Now, Kroger, Sand Lake Party Store and Sturges-Young Auditorium.
