Pedestrian killed by train in Marcellus

A 27-year-old Marcellus man died Thursday morning after he was struck by a freight train at a crossing in the village of Marcellus.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to the crossing at the east end of town.

Deputies arrived to find Logan Lamons deceased.

According to witnesses, Lamons was walking on the sidewalk, southbound on Burney Street, and looking down. Witnesses report the railroad gates were down, the gate bell sounding and red signals blinking, and train signaling its horn in excess to gain the attention of Lamons.

Behnke said it appears Lamons was distracted by music playing through his earbuds, and he stepped into the path of an eastbound CNN train.
