Sturgis Toy Run collects toys

Saturday’s 34th annual Sturgis Toy Run raised more than $2,600 and an abundance of toys to be distributed to St. Joseph County kids this Christmas.

The motorcycle rally attracted 125 bikers, who made the 60-mile trek around the county as a way of bringing awareness to the benevolent event.

Toy Run president Victor Hargett said the field where the Toy Run was previously held was sold in the past year, forcing event organizers to relocate the start and end point to the Hillcrest Bar and Grill, east of Sturgis. It was also modified to a one-day event this year instead of three.

Hargett said the Toy Run board will keep its options open in hopes of finding a field more conducive to the event when the 35th annual takes place next year.
