Traffic stop leads to arrests

A traffic stop in Schoolcraft last week netted the arrests of two people suspected of stealing merchandise from the Three Rivers Walmart.

Schoolcraft Police Chief Bryan Campbell said an officer initiated a traffic stop at 7 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 131, just south of the village limits, after it was observed having improper plates.

Two occupants were found to have outstanding warrants on unspecified charges; one was a parole absconder, Campbell said.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned that more than $500 worth of items found in the bed of the truck were stolen from the Three Rivers retailer.

The two passengers with warrants were transported to the Kalamazoo County Jail. Charges are pending in St Joseph County on the retail-fraud incident, according to Campbell.
